Peter Grunthal became a consulting actuary after qualifying as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK). He worked as a Principal with Towers Perrin, Inc. for 14 years, 7 in London, and 7 in Washington, DC. He then joined The Wyatt Company in New York, to lead the International Consulting Team, and subsequently led the New York Region Actuarial Practice until he retired in 1998.
During this time he served as the lead consultant to several multinational corporations in England and the United States, as well as some Federal Government and International agencies. These included Ely Lily, Inc., Elizabeth Arden, Inc., Rockwell International Corp., Firestone Tyre and Rubber Company, Canadian Pacific, Ltd., BASF Gmbh, Novartis AG, Sprint Inc., ICI Americas, Inc., the United Nations International Civil Service Commission, the US Department of Health and Social Security, the Organization of American States, and the Smithsonian Institution
Two years later he entered the academic world to teach economics, international business, management and marketing at Fordham University in New York.
His qualifications include: Fellowship of the Institute of Actuaries (UK) in 1970, specializing in Finance and Investment; Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, magna cum laude, from SUNY (Purchase College), with the Economics Prize for the best senior thesis. He was also admitted to Fellowship of the American Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and Associateship of the American Society of Actuaries.
He was appointed a Trustee of the Village of Mount Kisco in New York in 2003 and served until 2010. During that time he also chaired the Finance Committee. He was re-appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2015 and and served through 2021. He has also served on the Conservation Advisory Council, the Economic Development Council, and the Byram Lake Committee that monitors and cares for the lake that serves as the Village's primary source of water.
He left his home country of South Africa in 1966 to study and work in England. He lived there until 1977, and then transferred to the U.S.A. where he embraced American citizenship. He is married, with three adult children and six grandchildren.
